“They knew so much, each one of them, she thought, that they could do everything except say out loud what it was they were thinking.” — Brooklyn, Colm Toibin
Welcome, and thank you for visiting my website. My name is Gethin and I am a counsellor providing sessions to adult individuals in Aberdeen, Cardiff, Swansea, Birmingham. West London, Aberystwyth, Bangor, Canterbury, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Berlin, Amsterdam, Oxford and online.
Sometimes we just need to be silent and know we are understood. Other times we may need to rage against the pain and injustice we have tasted. And all in a safe and confidential therapeutic relationship.
I am a Person Centred Counsellor, believing that your needs are at the heart of my practice. At the heart of everything I do is a passionate, evidence based commitment, to build a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients. This relationship is founded on deep empathy, my authentic openness and unconditional acceptance for who you are.
As we open up and trust a professional therapist with our greatest difficulties, it is my experience that something wonderful can happen. In our words and silence, we hear ourselves in a new way. Sometimes for the first time. And the healing begins to flow as we understand our pain and find new directions for our lives.
I have been involved in helping people all my working life. This is my passion. I believe that every life has meaning, even when we feel we have lost everything. Therapy provides a safe and strong place to explore our dark places and find new ways of being.
About ten years ago, I came across the work of Carl Rogers and this changed my life. Through his research as a psychologist, he identified the core conditions necessary for therapeutic persaonality change. Powerful empathy needs to flow so we feel understood. The counsellor needs to be warm, authentic and open to their client. And the counsellor needs to have unconditional positive regard for their client. This is the gold standard and I aim for it in every session.
I am a Therapeutic Counsellor and an accredited member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). I am also a church minister (accredited by the Baptist Union of Great Britain), a journalist and a public relations practitioner.

I work from private offices located in a quiet part of Cardiff and see clients from central Aberdeen, Swansea, and Birmingham, as well as the surrounding areas of West London, Aberystwyth, Bangor, and Canterbury. I will provide location details when we arrange our counselling sessions.
In addition to providing face-to-face therapy, I also offer telephone counselling and online sessions for clients in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Berlin, Amsterdam, Oxford, and beyond via Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet.
Contact me to find out more about how online therapy works.
Starting in September 2024, I will be working online and in person, on Mondays (10:00 until 19:00) and Fridays (10:00 until 16:00).
Each session lasts between 50 to 60 minutes and costs £50.
Concessionary rates for students, trainee counsellors and faith leaders are £30 per session.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment.
This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential.
